Maybe that was the root of my dislike for her: she had what I wanted, which earned her my jealousy, and since I was ashamed of myself for wanting it, my scorn, as well.

About This Quote

When I wrote this quote, I was looking at the relationship between myself and my ex-girlfriend. As I looked back on our time together, I was surprised by how much of an effect her presence had on me. My most difficult memories are actually of my relationship with her. While I would say that it wasn't all bad, I remember that I resented her because of how she made me feel.

I hated myself for coveting what she had, and yet the more she gave to me, the more jealous I became. This quote describes how jealousy is the result of our own insecurities. When we feel jealous of others, we are basically saying that they have something about themselves that we don't like.
